A Year in Review

The Maile Image, Modeling & Acting School would like to thank all of our students, graduates, parents, instructors, clients and business partners for making 2009 a successful year.

We are proud to be celebrating our 28th year in Central Florida and hope 2010 will be the most successful year yet!

Let’s take a look back of some the many exciting achievements.

     Acting graduate Paul Amadi landed a role in the feature film The Blind Side starring Sandra Bullock, Tim McGraw and Kathy Bates.  Paul plays the role of Steve Hamilton. Paul and his family flew to New York for the premiere and had the opportunity to walk the red carpet. Pictured left is Paul at the premiere with country music star Tim McGraw.

Acting graduate and LA actress Spencer Locke booked a recurring role on ABC’s comedy show Cougar Town.  Cougar Town is about a newly divorced mom named Jules played by Courtney Cox who is exploring the dating scene.  Spencer began filming this past October and plays Kylie.  Spencer also booked a recording on the James Patterson book on tape titled Witch and Wizard.  Spencer is the witch and Elijah Wood from The Lord of the Rings series is the wizard.

Acting graduate Michelle LaBret  landed a supporting role in the upcoming movie The Gold Retrievers staring Steve Gutenberg, Curtis Armstrong and Billy Zane. The story is about a boy and his dog who go in search of a fabled local treasure in an effort to save the family house from foreclosure. Michelle played the role of Rachel, the town bully.

John Peros from John Peros Casting, has been serving the production community since 1989, casting hundreds of commercials, as well as, episodic television, film, industrials, music videos and print campaigns.   John’s holds all of his castings/auditions here at The Maile School and considers us his home for castings. Some of his clients cast here this year have included, Sea World’s Aquatica, Atlantis, Holy Redeemer, Papa Johns, Publix, Tobacco Free Florida, South Carolina Lottery and Jackson Hewitt to name a few!!

   12-year old Stefanie Scott, an alumni of The Maile School, filmed a role in the movie called Flipped directed by Academy Award winning Director, Rob Reiner.  The film, which is based on the book by Wendelin Van Draanen, revolves around the confusing romantic developments of a boy and girl from 1957-63 as the kids grow up from ages 7 to 13.  Stefanie plays the role of Dana who is Juli’s, (played by Swing Votes’ Madeline Carroll) best friend and somewhat of a gossip. Aidan Quinn, Penelope Ann Miller, Kevin Weisman, Anthony Edwards, Rebecca De Mornay and John Mahoney are also starring in the film due to be released in 2010.

   Graduate Greg Davis Jr completed his 3rd season on the zany TBS popular show 10 Items or Less.  Greg’s character Buckwald Washington is a bagger at the Greens and Grains grocery store.  With a gift for bagging, Buck finds entertainment in laughing at his co-workers, who sometimes take their jobs a little too seriously, while working his way through night school. He also had the opportunity to appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for the first time as a guest to promote his show.

    Casting Director Lori Wyman won an Emmy for the HBO movie entitled, RECOUNT,  Her other top castings included Bart Got A Room starring William H. Macy, Marley and Me,  the Jim Carrey movie  I LOVE YOU PHILLIP MORRIS, the Sam Mendes project Farlanders, and she did some casting on the George Clooney movie, Men Who Stare at Goats.  Lori’s book also did very well titled The Organic Actor, Insider's Secrets to Auditioning for Film and Television.

   Advanced acting graduate Bre Morgan landed a speaking role in the feature film Fame.  She played an intense and frustrated student dancer. Bre has been traveling to and from LA for auditions and bookings. She was selected by Radio Disney for their radio show titled The Next Big Thing. (A Disney style American Idol). They ran her songs on the radio for 2 weeks along with 11 other selected artists. Bre writes her own songs and plays the guitar.

    Professional modeling and acting graduate and Miss America 2004 Ericka Dunlap was selected to appear as a contestant along with her husband Brian on CBS’s hit show The Amazing Race. The teams traveled one of the fastest courses ever put together, spanning 8 countries in just 21 days. Brian and Ericka were proud to be the shows first interracial couple.  They said that overall it was a good experience and they ended up finishing third.  The couple lives in Nashville, where she is pursuing a country music career. Great job Ericka!

Acting graduate Arielle Kebbel starred in the suspense thriller The Uninvited which did very well at the box office. Arielle played the supporting role of Alex.  Roger Moore from the Orlando Sentinel gave The Uninvited four stars saying, “An effective blend of thriller and horror, The Uninvited is the best adaptation of an Asian horror title since The Ring.” He also says that “Alex played by Arielle Kebbel has the best role and all the funniest lines.”  The Maile School is so proud of Arielle and all her success she has accomplished.

   Modeling and acing graduate Izayah Thorb has done very well for himself in the industry.  Izayah and his family flew to Jamaica for the film he shot titled Forgotten Father.  It was shown at the Reggae Film Festival. A freelance journalist saw it and liked it so much that he helped promote it through the Caribbean Islands, France, Sweden, England, and the Netherlands.  Way to go Izayah. We look forward to hearing more from you in 2010.

   Graduate Brittany McDaniel spent six weeks this past summer in Nashville writing great songs for her upcoming album. While networking she met country star, Dierks Bentley and had the opportunity to work with Big Vinny from Trailer Choir. Britt appeared at The Listening Room Café where she debuted several of her new songs in Writers in the Round format. Congrats Brittany and we hope to see you on Country Music Television real soon!

Star Talent

Acting and Scene Study graduate Tony Robinette booked a commercial for Hungry Howies and MediaCom as well as an industrial for Champs. Tony performs at Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World and Pirates Dinner Adventure.  He is represented by Louise's People and Brevard Talent Group.  Tony not only acts but is a comedian as well.

   Acting grad Tracie Jackson commutes between Orlando and Atlanta for  jobs. She booked a national commercial and just landed a role in a short film titled Unfortunate. She has modeled for Catherine’s Plus Size store and her vocal credits include singing with the Prayz Generation on the TBN network and background vocals with Ritz Studio Productions with clients like Melinda Doolittle. Tracie says, “I'm excited to announce that I booked the starring role of a gospel musical play The Day I Forgave My Father." Also, thanks to Debbie Wisner for supporting me by attending my final talent competition Orlando Has Talent.  God  has really blessed me to meet such beautiful supportive people at The Maile Acting School.  You couldn't ask for a better team of people to stand behind you.

Acting and advanced acting graduate Jim McDonald booked two TV commercials for Freedom Health that are running now throughout Florida. In one he plays a doctor and in the other he is a spokes model. He landed a print brochure job for Freedom Point Condos at the Villages as well as stock photography for Digital Juice Productions. He also found the time to sing in Handel’s Messiah at Bob Carr.

Good news from image, modeling & acting grad Kasandra Bandfield. She is nearly finished with her degree in Film from FMU now Everest University. She writes, create storyboards, casts, produces, and directs her own films. She also serves as the Student Ambassador and is consistently on the Dean's List. Along with her school work she still manages to book industry jobs for clients such as Cache, Mall at Millenia, Home Shopping Network, Stila Cosmetics, Con Air and WKMG to name a few.

   Congratulations to acting, advanced acting and scene study graduate Rusty Reigert. He landed a print ad for Beall’s (pictured right) as well as appeared in their TV commercials. Rusty also booked another commercial for WKMG local 6 which he plays a lead role.  Rusty has been working in the entertainment industry for over 20 years. We look forward to more news from Rusty in 2010!
