Greg Completes 3rd Season on TBS

Congratulations to acting graduate Greg Davis Jr for completing his 3rd season on the zany TBS popular show 10 Items or Less.  Greg’s character Buckwald Washington is a bagger at the Greens and Grains grocery store.  With a gift for bagging, Buck finds entertainment in laughing at his
co-workers, who sometimes take their jobs a little too seriously, while working his way through night school.

This year he had the opportunity to appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for the first time as a guest to promote his show.

Greg attended Dr. Phillips High School and now lives in LA.  He admits he was a huge Power Rangers fan back in 1995 and that is what prompted his mom to enroll him in acting classes here at The Maile School. He thought he was going to be a power ranger and that is why he agreed to attend.  Greg says, he has a solid spiritual foundation and a strong belief in God. Greg Jr is the son of Carole and Greg Davis of Orlando.

Be sure to watch Season 3 of 10 Item or Less every Tuesday night at 11pm on TBS!

Star Talent

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Arielle Kebbel stars in the suspense thriller The Uninvited which opened in theaters January 30th.

Anna (Emily Browning) returns home to her sister and best friend Alex (Arielle Kebbel) after a stint in a medical hospital due to their mothers tragic death.  She discovers that her father (David Strathairn) is engaged to Rachel (Elizabeth Banks) who was their mothers nurse.  Together the sisters try to convince their father that Rachel is not who she seems to be.
Roger Moore from the Orlando Sentinel gave The Uninvited four stars saying, “An effective blend of thriller and horror, The Uninvited is the best adaptation of an Asian horror title since The Ring.” He also says that “Alex played by Arielle Kebbel has the best role and all the funniest lines.”  Be sure to support fellow Maile graduate Arielle Kebbel.  See The Uninvited in theaters near you!

Acting graduates Michael, Nathaniel and Keira Pena were busy in 2008 and 2009 is off to a fast start too. This past January they booked a TV spot and print for Ringling Bros Circus and all three kids shot two short films titled The Sleepy Ridge Murders and No Good Deed and booked roles in a DVD Video for Animal Planet.

Ten year old Michael filmed a commercial for Papa Johns and shot two different print jobs for Scholastic Book Fair including one for a text book.  He enjoys playing guitar, drums and keyboard.

Eight year old Nathaniel booked a print campaign for Pinch-a-Penny as well as Scholastic Book Fair.  From his comp card he was selected to model in a photo shoot for The Orlando Magazine. He enjoys playing video games, soccer and baseball.

Four year old Keira was a featured extra in the Ringling Bros TV spot and just completed her acting class and is ready to book more jobs. She had the opportunity to model in a photo shoot for The Orlando Magazine out next month. She enjoys playing dress up and listening to music.

The Pena’s live in Deltona and are home schooled due to their busy industry schedule. They are the children of Willie and Diana Pena.

All three attend the On Camera Acting program and Michael and Nathaniel are in the Advanced Scene Study program now.

Congrats to Children’s Acting graduate Cayden Capps.  Shortly after he finished his program his parents who are both dancers had job transfers that took the family to Honk Kong.  Luckily for Cayden Hong Kong has a big market for fashion and acting.  Cayden signed with an agency and landed a print spread in a top Hong Kong magazine where he modeled for clients such as Vans, Calvin Klein and Dolce and Gabana. Exciting news for graduate Anne Marie Aksell and The Chefsters cast.  They are having a red carpet event in Los Angeles on Wednesday March 4, 2009. They are renting a movie theater and are busing in over 300 children from LA schools for the viewing.  Some celebrities will also attend.  The Chefsters publicist also represents Ellen DeGeneres.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good news from LA actress and acting graduate Spencer Locke. She booked a huge guest starring role on Cold Case right before the holidays. She plays Sarah Blake , a 16 year old teenager whose murder they are solving.  Her episode is scheduled to air on Sunday March 8th on CBS at 9:00pm. Cold Case stars Kathryn Morris, Danny Pino, John Finn and Thom Barry.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Advanced acting and modeling graduate Izayah Thorb and his family are going to Jamaica next month, for the film he shot last year titled Forgotten Father.  It is being shown at the Reggae Film Festival. A freelance journalist saw it and liked it so much that he is going to help promote it through the Caribbean Islands, France, Sweden, England, and the Netherlands. Izayah is currently a member in The Maile Schools Young Performers Group coached by Sheri Kebbel.

Image, modeling & acting graduate Rachel Lietzke has been busy since her open heart surgery that was a little over a year ago. While on vacation in North Carolina she had the opportunity to go to the Speed Channel station in Charlotte and model in a photo shoot with their project bikes. (pictured left & right)
She recently appeared on an episode for a Fox  35 show called Orlando Matters.  She was the featured guest  talking about her heart surgery. Rachel also did a radio spot on Mix 105.1. Even more good news to helpfully come, she auditioned to be the face of the Go! Red for Women campaign with the American Heart Association. We will keep you posted on this 21 year olds success.

Featured Instructor: Christian Kebbel

Christian Kebbel  joined the Screen Actor’s Guild at the age of 10..on Halloween no less…a favorite “character” day for any actor!  He took his first acting class at The Maile School when he was six but his mom waited a few years before he began auditioning professionally…and then he booked his first audition with the lead role in a children’s video with Mandy Moore! Christian has worked in regional, national and Canadian commercials, booked the role of a young Jim Henson in “Kermit The Swamp Years” and worked with Talia Shire, Barry Corbin and W. Earl Brown in the feature film “Dunsmore” shot locally in the Orlando area. He could also be seen in shows at The Civic Theatre (now The Orlando Rep) and The Theatre of Winter Haven. As a young teen Christian was awarded Best Male Actor in both Main Stage and Blackbox shows at The Ice House Theatre in Mt. Dora. and later co-directed “Cabaret” which was the highest grossing show !

Christian graduated with honors from Winter Park High School where he was famous for writing, directing and starring in films he created for class assignments. He now attends Rollins College where he was awarded the prestigious Cornell Scholarship. You can also hear Christian hosting a Rollins College radio show every Monday 3-5pm on 91.5 WPRKfm!

Christian’s two sisters Arielle and Julia are also graduates of The Maile School and are now working in Hollywood California and so very proud of their “baby” brother!

YPG: SAK Comedy

Sheri Kebbel arranged for The Young Performers group to attend a fieldtrip to the SAK Comedy Club on January 22nd.   The students watched and participated as the talented SAK performers re-enacted true life skits decided by members of the audience.

School President Debbie Wisner, who also attended, said “This was a wonderful opportunity for this elite group to experience a live improv show.”

If you are interested in joining YPG contact the school for the next audition date.
