Stefanie Scott, Rising Star!

12-year old Stefanie Scott, and alumni of The Maile School, just finished filming her next role in the movie called “Flipped’ directed by Academy Award winning Director, Rob Reiner.  The film, which is based on the book by Wendelin Van Draanen, revolves around the confusing romantic developments of a boy and girl from 1957-63 as the kids grow up from ages 7 to 13.  Stefanie plays the role of Dana who is Juli’s, (played by Swing Votes’ Madeline Carroll) best friend and somewhat of a gossip. Aidan Quinn, Penelope Ann Miller, Kevin Weisman, Anthony Edwards, Rebecca De Mornay and John Mahoney are also starring in the film due to be released in 2010.

We asked Stefanie what it was like during the audition and filming process. “From the moment I read the script I knew I wanted to be a part of this film,” she said.  It has such a great story line and I could identify with many of the characters.”  “During the audition process I first met with the Casting Director, and then received the good news that every actor wants to hear…that I got I callback!  I met with the producers and with the Director, Rob Reiner.  Later, I was called back again to read this time with Madeline Carroll, who plays Juli”, she added.   “A few days later I received a call from my manager, Sheri Kebbel, who told me the great news that I booked the role and I did what any 12 year old actress would do….I screamed and jumped up and down!!”

“We filmed in Ann Arbor, Michigan which is beautiful!  I met the other actors who I would be working with and we all had so much fun together.  Being on set was so fabulous.  We were given a schedule a week at a time so we had a thumbnail sketch of about how our days would be scheduled.  Most of my calls were early in the morning for make-up and hair and since the film takes place around 1960, the costume, hair and make-up people had lots of details to get the look right!  Off-set, we would get together at night to write songs, play basketball, watch movies and laugh!  We also enjoyed a trip to a carnival where we rode some awesome rides, went to a Detroit Tigers game where we had box seats to the Detroit Tigers game with the Director, Rob Reiner, and on another day enjoyed a local water park.”  “ It was sad when I wrapped my last day knowing it was all over, but I am back out auditioning again for my next role!”

“Lots of people ask me for advice on where to start and I tell them how I did….I started with a beginning acting class (in my case at The Maile School) and then I just kept branching out from there, auditioning and taking classes to get better. My mom ran up lots of miles on our car between Melbourne and Orlando!  But all the hard work has been totally worth it!”

Stefanie can be seen Monday (Aug. 3rd) on the Disney Channel in Beethoven’s Big Break alongside Moises Arias, and she has a new commercial which will begin airing for iCarly Fashion Switch Figures and iCarly Sam’s Remote.  Additionally, her new EP called “New Girl in Town” was just released on iTunes.  www.StefanieScott.com

Just a quick update……Image, Modeling & Acting graduate Brittany McDaniel is in Nashville for six weeks writing great songs and networking. She has been extremely busy, but is having a blast. One day while getting out of her car at the grocery store, she thought the guy parked next to her looked familiar. It turns out that it was country star, Dierks Bentley! They talked all the way into the store. She made several other great contacts as well. Britt appeared at The Listening Room Café on Wednesday, July 29th at 6:00 p.m. She debuted several of her new songs in a Writers in the Round format. Congrats Brittany!
