New Year New Success!

Acting graduate and former National Football League and Arena football player Herkie Walls will hold the title of head football coach of the Daytona Beach Thunderbirds in 2008.  Herkie attended the On Camera Acting program here at The Maile School to work on his public relations skills and to market himself as an actor in the industry.  He starred for the NFL’s Houston Oilers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was a home town favorite with the Orlando Predators from 1991 to 1996.  He excited the crowd with kick off returns and touch downs.  With the Predators he was in the top five in almost every category and holds 15 club records.  Herkie was inducted into the Predators Ring of Honor in 1999 and is the most recognized and popular player in the teams history.  After his playing days he moved to the corporate office of the Orlando Predators to utilize his marketing and public relation skills.  He held the position of Director of Sales and Community Relations.  Using his local celebrity status he created a program called “Fitness is Fun” in which he encourages children and teens to exercise and eat healthy.  The Arena Football League recognized his success with this program and in 2001 Herkie’s program has been duplicated by other teams.

We congratulate Herkie on all his accomplishments and wish him and his Daytona Beach Thunderbird players a successful season

Star Talent!

Since leaving Orlando about 5 years ago acting graduate Craig Timbes invented and patented a new fishing device for the most sought after gamefish on the Gulf Coast of Florida ...The Snook.  A local magazine publisher heard about Craig and asked if he would write for a local marine magazine "The Nautical Mile".  After writing for the magazine for a while and calling in weekly to a radio show called Reel Talk Radio, the station wanted Craig to have a character name.  He  then became the Snook Cowboy and now he makes public appearances at boat shows and tournaments.  He also gives regular seminars at Bass Pro Shops as well as other marine dealers and fishing clubs.

For Craig’s first audition he landed a job at Universal Studios. He felt very prepared for the audition due to the training in confidence and preparation he received while at The Maile School .  Craig says, “I often give credit to my success as a local celebrity in part because of the EXCEPTIONAL training that I received while enrolled in the acting classes”.

Craig currently lives the middle of Paradise " Pine Island " as the Snook Cowboy and couldn’t be happier.  He says, “The entertainment bug is a lifelong blessing that allows you to escape from the REALITY that exists and I consider myself blessed that you folks were a part of it all.”

Craig will have a DVD that he will be distributing as The Snook Cowboy.

Advanced acting graduate Johnny Maio  recently worked as the SAG stunt double for Josh Flitter in "Ace Ventura III."  He got to Heely (skate) with Josh all over Universal Studios. He is also the principal in a Little League PSA which will air New Year's Day on ESPN and ABC.  He has been in 15 films, dozens of commercials, and several stage shows.  He also Irish Dances and has recorded a jazz piano CD called, "Twelve at Ten."

Mom Says, “The Maile School gave Johnny his great start in this industry, and he continues to be reaping the benefits of your outstanding training”.

The 2008 United States Junior National Figure Skating Championships concluded December 1st in Salt Lake City with Image, Modeling & Acting graduate Taylor Elliott earning the bronze medal in the intermediate ice dance couples division. Taylor is a senior at Circle Christian School of Orlando . She has been skating since she was 4 years old. She is home for the holidays and will continue her training after the new year in Dallas . She still finds time to book industry jobs and has modeled for Cache and Seminole Towne Center .

Congrats to gradate Paul Amadi for booking a national Nike commercial. There were over 600 actors that auditioned for the commercial!! You may remember Paul from starring the in Fantasia Barrino Lifetime movie “My Life is not a Fairy Tale”.  Way to go Paul!

Acting and advanced graduate John Rice booked several commercials through Full Sail.  An Indy film about gangsters entitled "One Thing", a commercial about the Orlando Magic in conjunction with The Blue Man Group, and a Digital Media project with Valencia 's students.
