NONVERBAL INTERVIEW SKILLS

An important part of the hiring decision is based on nonverbal elements in an interview-

HANDSHAKE: A firm dry solid handshake. A confident, comfortable person uses the handshake as a positive nonverbal interaction. The hand shake should assure someone of your desire for a positive first impression. A limp handshake signals low self-esteem. An excessively strong handshake tells you the person is overly aggressive.

EYE CONTACT: When people fail to look others in the eye, it can seem as if they are evading or trying to hide something. On the other hand, too much eye contact can seem confrontational or intimidating. While eye contact is an important part of communication, it's important to remember that good eye contact does not mean staring fixedly into someone's eyes. How can you tell how much eye contact is correct? Some communication experts recommend intervals of eye contact  in 5 to 6 seconds.

POSTURE: Sit comfortably yet upright, but not stiffly. Walk with a self-assured ease! This means you are confident and comfortable. Slouchy posture speaks loudly about sloppy work and low self-esteem. Posture that enables you to take up the appropriate amount of space in the room tells them that the you are secure in your abilities. Sloppy posture gives the impression of low energy and carelessness.

LISTENING SKILLS: Doing these things will demonstrate that you are paying attention.

maintain eye contact, don't interrupt, nod your head, lean forward , repeat instructions and ask appropriate questions at the end. A good listener knows that being attentive to what the speaker doesn't say is as important as being attentive to what he does say. Look for non-verbal cues such as facial expressions and posture to get the full gist of what the speaker is telling you.

CLOTHING& ACCESSORIES: No matter how informal the work environment, you need to wear a suit to the first meeting. The selected outfit will show how you will interact with and be perceived by customers or clients. A brief case, a leather portfolio, a nice pen, leather purse and shined shoes present a solid, professional appearance. They tell that you cared enough to want to make a good first impression.

Don’t overlook the power of a good first impression. People make assumptions about your professional credibility and potential performance based upon your appearance during a first meeting. It's very difficult to change a poor first impression, regardless of your knowledge or expertise. To be successful, research and practice for the interview and plan the professional image you want to project. If you come to an interview dressed professionally, you will feel a sense of confidence and others will sense your self-assurance. Employers interpret your appearance in terms of what you know and what attention you give to detail.

FEELING AND LOOKING YOUR BEST!

Are you so busy, your well-being comes last?  Would you like to be healthier, to look and feel your best?  Because the way we feel physically impacts countless areas of our lives—job performance, emotional wellness, fitness, longevity, self-esteem, etc., many turn to personal coaches for “maximum performance.”

Success coach & school founder Lisa Maile loves helping adults become healthier and feel their strongest!  “Usually, people with full, fast-paced lives are on overload with professional and personal obligations.  I help them introduce simple lifestyle changes and models’ secrets to easily integrate into a hectic schedule.  The key is to incorporate basic, fun behaviors so healthy living is enjoyable—an easy-to-live-with Life Plan instead of a dreaded ‘diet & fitness regimen’!”

A self-admitted chocoholic, Lisa has tremendous respect for those totally committed to nutritious eating and daily workouts, “But most people don’t want to give up favorite foods or have time to exercise an hour or more daily.  My job is to get them much healthier without investing time they don’t have—plus, if it isn’t fun, it’s not functional”, says Lisa.

Having worked decades with models on fitness, Lisa’s been extremely successful assisting corporations and individuals achieve maximum performance.  “Healthy living allows you to perform better for everyone around you; plus, feeling & looking your best is an important message of love we send our children about health priorities.”

Renowned for coaching image & communication skills, Lisa says the approach is similar: “Without a plan you get chaos, which is why many adults find themselves in poor health.  I help clients identify healthy choices they’ll enjoy to produce results they’ll love, impacting every area of their life.”

Lisa’s private coaching is customized to meet your needs. All inquiries are confidential.  If you’d like to feel healthier and more confident, she’s waiting to hear from you!  For info on Lisa’s services, contact School President Debbie Wisner at debbiew@lisamaile.com or call 407-628-5989.  For more info and references on Lisa, please visit www.LisaMaileSeminars.com.
