Sarah Meahl plays Natalee Holloway

Maile School graduate Sarah Meahl (17 yrs) just returned from the Keys, where she filmed The Natalee Holloway story for Court TV's HAUNTING EVIDENCE show. The episode will be the season opener, and should air in mid June (probably June 20th). Sarah played the lead role.

(Natalee was the high school senior who disappeared following her class trip to Aruba.)

Sarah researched the role extensively and had the opportunity to audition.  In doing so, Sarah discovered that she and Natalee shared a passion for dance, they were the same height and weight, and even had the same birth mark on their right forearm! Her personal research made all the difference in the audition. Sarah agreed to be fitted for colored contacts (Natalee's eyes were blue; Sarah's are brown.)

Sarah believes the story is important because hopefully other teen girls will learn how to stay safe and avoid similar situations. The entire cast realized that Natalee was a smart and bright girl, and it still did not prevent what happened to her.

Sarah says she is "very honored” to portray Natalee, and she feels the story will be very beneficial to other girls to make them more aware and to open their eyes to potential danger.

Her advice for other actors is "Live the story, put yourself in the other person's shoes.” “ Being Confident and showing your own personality will make all the difference and if you want something bad enough, you can get it!"

Sarah is a junior at Bishop Moore and is planning to go to college for Musical Theater.

Grad Britt McDaniel was selected as one of 7 finalists for WIYD radio's Colgate Country Showdown competition. The competition took place on May 27th at the "Blue Crab Festival" in Palatka, Fl. The Colgate Country Showdown is a 25 year old, national talent search. The winner goes on to compete nationally for $100,000. Last year, Britt was selected from over 100 entries to compete in the K92FM competition prelims. She was then selected as one of 7 finalists for K92FM.  Keep on singing Britt!

News from Jana Stump for the past four years she has been a member of the Philips Phile, Real Radio 104.1, as Jana Banana.  She auditioned for the Local 6 traffic reporter and became a finalist.  Voting began on May 11 at the local6.com website.  Because it's "American Idol" style voting, I  greatly appreciated all the help I got!!

She says, “Thanks again for helping me succeed!” “I enrolled in the school several years ago just because I thought it would be fun...who knew where it would lead.”

Children's Modeling and Acting graduate Stefanie Scott currently holds the title of “Miss American Sweetheart 2007” for the state of Florida!  She was recently cast as Marta in “The Sound of Music” at Orlando’s Starlight Dinner Theatre running June 28th thru August 5th. Nice job Stefanie.

Congrats to graduate Nathalie Calderon for being a guest on the Naomi Judd TV Talk Show! Nathalie and her mom were flown to New York to discuss her prosthetic leg and her amazing dancing ability. Keep on dancing Nathalie!

Rachelle Lucas has been working on several projects.  She booked an Absolut Vodka: Pear commercial concept for Murray Mile Productions.  She was on the set of “Bring It On 4: In It To Win It” that is being filmed at Universal Studios.  Also, was just cast in the role of the nurse in a independent film titled “Keep This Ticket” that is shooting next month.

A nice email from school founder Art D’Alessandro on what he has been up to:

In February the film I wrote and produced called ZZYZX took second place out of 60 featured films at Nashville's Fylmz Festival. This earned us a $10,000 cash prize and was our second straight runner-upfinish at a festival to go with one win at last summer's Miami Independent Film and Music Festival. ZZYZX is a dark, edgy thriller and definitely not everyone's taste but will be available at Amazon, Hollywood Video and Netflix in June. Though we're selling it as "unrated", it would be a hard "R."
BLITHE and VIRGINIA, which I first wrote back in 1993, goes into production in Canada this June and should air on Lifetime TV this fall. This is the story of two sisters who reconnect after years of estrangement.

I just finished a rewrite on a script called LAST TRAIN HOME for Alison Eastwood (Clint's daughter) to direct. Billy Bob Thornton has made a verbal commitment to star, but Alison wants to bring the script to Warner, who produced her other movie, and they will have a say in the casting if they do come on
board. It would also be co-produced by Clint's company, Malpaso Productions, which recently gave us LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA, FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS, MILLION DOLLAR BABY, etc..

A deal memo has just been signed on a script I co-wrote called DANCE MACHINE, which tells the story of a kid who becomes a great dancer using the Dance-Dance-Revolution machines you find at theme parks and arcades. They hope to film this one this coming December in New Mexico, which gives great incentives to filmmakers.

I just optioned a script I wrote last summer called SHORTIES to a producer in Atlanta who recently moved there from L.A. He has a company out of New York that wants to finance the film.

I'm currently adapting a book called 22 YELLOW ROSES into a film script. It tells the story of a coach back in 1978 in Michigan who took a bunch of rag-tag girls and turned them into a national championship
softball team. The kicker to the story is that he coached them in the championship game from prison by phone.

I'm hoping to produce and direct another script I wrote called BLISS here sometime in the next year and will be looking for investors, so if you know of anyone who wants to feel like a movie mogul, send 'em my way.

Well, that's it for now. Stay well and happy. Thank you for your interest, and please send your                 news our way.  See you at the movies!
