Happy New Year

In 2003 acting graduate Gregory Davis II moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dreams immediately after graduating from Dr. Phillips High School.  A week before he was scheduled to graduate he almost died in an attempted car jacking.   Greg resisted the car jacker who threatened him by putting a gun to his head.  Thankfully, the gun did not go off and Greg knew that God intervened. He cites his faith in Jesus Christ to be the most important thing in his life. Now 22 years old he has developed an impressive resume landing a guest role on CSI: NY, a small role in King of California, a new movie starring Michael Douglas and his most recent role as Buck on the TBS TV show 10 Items or Less. This young and very talented actor is the son of Greg and Carole Davis. Carole is an acting graduate from The Maile School and has also booked many jobs here in Central Florida! Greg was  booking local commercials here in Orlando before going out to LA  and he had a recurring role on the Nickelodeon hit, Gullah Gullah Island.  Greg hopes to continue as a working actor and make meaningful films.  He aspires to have the opportunity to work with his idol Denzel Washington!

Congrats to acting & advanced acting gradate Jon Hooper for having his first CD out on line for sale. Jon has been playing since the age of 13 and now at 24 has decided to take acting classes to improve his stage presence for his live concerts. Jon sings lead vocal and plays rhythm guitar.  He has performed at venues such as House of Blues, AKA Lounge and has played on main stage acoustic shows at the Florida Music festival with 3rd Eye Blind. His producer is Pete Thornton who is also the producer of Limp Biskit.  Peter arranged background music from The Disney orchestra to be on track 5 of John’s CD.  You can visit Jon’s website at jonhoopermusic.com and check out his CD titled Playground!

Star Talent!

Graduate Casey Kichukoff recently decided to get back into the industry. She auditioned for National Lampoon's RoboDoc as an extra and ended up featured. You can see her sitting at the head table (next to David Faustino) for the Doctor's Banquet scene and also as Alan Thicke's wedding date (in the front row) for the wedding scene. She says, “her overall experience on set was amazing and she is excited to share her wonderful experience with all The Maile school students/grads”! I look forward to having more to share in the future!

Acting & Advanced graduate Brandon Howle has been busy booking a commercial for Mattress 1, a TV spot for WFTV Channel 9 and an industrial video for Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure. He had a supporting role in the Full Sail film Texas Ranger, as well as in the independent film Beneath the Surface. He was also booked as an extra in the SAG film Robodoc. Brandon is taking the plunge and moving to LA on January 6th! To prepare himself for the LA market, he has been studying with Kevin O’Neill privately here at The Maile School. Good Luck Brandon!

Graduate Amanda Balon performed on Good Morning America this past December. Her career took off after she was offered the role of "Molly" the youngest orphan in the Nationwide Tour of the Broadway Musical Annie. Acquiring many glowing reviews, Amanda was one of 2 orphans invited back to perform in the 2nd season of the award winning show, in the role of “Duffy” and the Annie under study. Annie opened to a sold out audience at NY's prestigious Madison Square Garden. Kathy Lee Gifford and John Schuck also performed with the cast.

Graduate Briana Frank, age 9, currently showcased her singing and dancing skills in a variety of weekly shows for the Starlight Dinner Theatre’s Holiday Season, which ran through New Year’s Eve.  She began her singing, dancing and acting career in local productions of Music Man, Fiddler, Cinderella, Guys & Dolls and Once on This Island.  She performed in eight shows at Bob Carr in the national touring production of Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. She also appeared and performed for the Seminole Towne Center, The Southern Woman’s Show and was featured on FOX Live with Christine Van Blokland!

TIPS

How to Form a Relationship with Anyone
You can only succeed with the help, interest and support of others, and this requires the ability to form business and personal relationships.

You can use this simple two-part system to talk to anyone!

For example, you want to form a relationship with a neighbor. Where do you start?

1. Find something to like about the neighbor. You look him over and decide he has a nice smile and good looking boots. This step is done. You don't have to say anything unless you feel like it.

2. Discuss something with which he can agree.
You have to ask some questions to determine this. What has he been doing lately? How's his family? What do they do for fun?

For example, he talks about a fantastic vacation he and his family just enjoyed in New York. You love New York, too. You discuss and agree on New York’s fun spots.

As another example, you are waiting for your flight to Chicago at an airport. You decide to establish a relationship with the business woman sitting next to you. First you find something you like about her. You like her red-leather briefcase.

So you say, "Nice briefcase!" She smiles and nods. You then find something with which she can agree.

"Are you from Chicago?" She starts to communicate. You find you both agree that Chicago weather is too cold. You then find other things of which you both agree.

Simply walk up to someone, find something you like about the person, then discover and discuss a point of agreement. Just keep asking questions. "What do you like best about these meetings?" "What is your opinion about _____(the meeting topic)_____?" "What business are you in?"

You can use these two steps to form relationships with anyone. For example, you get on a train and sit next to a body-pierced, tattooed, pimply-faced teenager with hamburger breath. You follow the formula and find something to like about him: he has a beautiful sunset picture on his shirt. You feel better about the fellow and start to find something with which he can agree. "Where did you get that great shirt?"

Before long, you actually enjoy the relationship.
