December 2007

Christmas Oh Christmas!

Congrats to acting and advanced acting graduate Patrick Joseph “PJ” Hoover.  He’s a member of the boy band titled The HeartBeat Boys produced by music genius Maurice Starr. Starr is known for creating multi-platinum groups “New Kids on the Block” and the R&B group “New Edition”.  The HeartBeat Boys members include 11 yr old David Crider, 13 yr olds Patrick Joseph “PJ” Hoover and Ryan Findlay, 14 yr old Emile Doles and 15 yr old Nat Coombes.

They have performed for more than 1700 screaming teens, and are currently in the midst of the FYE mall tour. The HeartBeat Boys have been in the recording studio laying down the tracks for their highly anticipated 2008 debut CD release entitled, “From The Heart”.  The group has also released their first single, "Christmas Oh Christmas” that can be heard on Magic 107.7 during the Dave and Leslye show. Starr feels that the “From The Heart” CD project is filled with his best ever writing and producing efforts. Over the past few years, Starr has written hits for acts like LL Cool J, P. Diddy, Mase, Bow Wow and Lil Romeo.

This past October the boys premiered on the Billboard Hot single chart at #6 then jumped to #2 with their new hit “Christmas Oh Christmas”. Visit Billboard at www.billboard.com for more info on The HeartBeat Boys or check out their website at www.heartbeatboys.com.

Patrick has been busy with acting as well booking a role in the new “Ace Ventura III” movie and a principal for an industrial video for “Awanas”. He attends the International Community School in Winter Park and is the son of Marc & Gail Hoover from Altamonte Springs.

Words of Wisdom from

School President, Debbie Wisner:

“Believe in yourself, you are a star!”

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

STAR TALENT

Acting Instructor Brian Patrick Clarke landed the role of Pennington in “Ace Ventura III”. His character is the pompous, richer than rich, arrogant-beyond-measure jerk, named "Thurston Pennington, Sr." Brian says, “It is a fun, fun character.” “The director, David Mickey Evans (writer of 'Radio Flyer", writer/director for "The Sandlot", "The Sandlot 2", and most recently directed "The Final Season") was an actor's dream to work for”!  He loves to "play" with the material, to try things and see what works best, and to keep the ENERGY up in front of the lens.  Brian Patrick is also known for his roles in “Rockett”, “Sydney White” with Amanda Bynes and the ABC hit soap “General Hospital”.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Acting graduate Paige Huston also had an exciting time shooting “Ace Ventura III”. She plays the co-captain of the swim team. She shot for 6 days in Windermere and on International Drive. Paige is 14 years old and a freshman at Lake Mary High School. She recently was awarded the prestigious critics choice award at the Jr. State Thespian Festival. She has booked work for Disney, Splash Mountain and Seminole County Arts Alive. She also has done various community theater plays and school plays.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Modeling & acting graduate Nancy Krayer booked an "Ask Gary” commercial and just finished a UCF student film "For Her". She did print work for Disney and landed character work at Sea World for the Spooktacular event. She was cast in a TV/Internet series called "The Jury" as a detective. She is currently in a play "I Am Not Forgotten”. She also completed Full Sail films "The Christening",  "The Auction", The Addict", "Into The Night”,” The Fixx, "The Requiem", and "The Mirror". All of this and she still had time to model for a Talbot's runway fashion show at the Southern Woman's Show.

 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You may remember acting graduate Hortense Knowles in a commercial for Publix a while back. She is still staying busy booking several jobs. She landed print work for “ATT”, “Edward James Financial” and “Harcourt”. She also booked a commercial for “Citrus Healthcare” that is running in the central Florida area now.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Image and acting graduate Brooke Bellows shot a SAG national ad for "Visit Florida."  She recently booked print work for “Norwegian Cruise Lines” where she had to take an exciting five day cruise for the job!  She also did an ad for “Yamaha Boat Motors” and a runway fashion show for Sax Fifth Avenue. Nice job Brooke!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Modeling & acting graduates Harrison and Ophelia Boxley worked as featured extras in “Ace Ventura III”. They have been cast in this years “A Christmas Carol” at Theatre Downtown, Harrison will be appearing as young Scrooge and Ophelia is one of the Cratchit children with several other small parts. The show runs from November 23rd - December 22nd. They have also modeled for the Mall at Millenia and Vans in a runway fashion show. Mom and Dad say, “We would like to thank you ALL for your help and training”.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update on grad Brittany McDaniel. She was selected to sing the National Anthem for the Orlando Magic vs San Antonio Spurs game and also at her high school homecoming game. She was the featured vocalist for the Kid’s House of Seminole County fundraiser breakfast for several hundred executives. She performed 4 sets with the Steel Pony Band from West Palm Beach for the Hobe Sound Hoedown, a fundraiser for the chamber of commerce. Also, Britt was a featured performer for the Ocala Talent Showcase. Among those in the audience was Stella Partin (Dolly's sister). She was extremely impressed with Britt's performance, and requested a copy of her cd. Be on the look out for her December 8th at 1:00 at the Citrus Bowl for the Florida High School football championship game. You go girl!

GROOMING TIPS FOR MEN FROM OUR IMAGE EXPERTS:

Men seem to take a back seat on tips for image but more men are becoming interested in keeping up with the times.  Image is becoming as important to them as it is for women. For men the hair is not as long as we were seeing last season.  If they do have longer hair they need to keep it clean looking.  Make sure your sideburns are clean and thinned out as well as the hairline. Because they are wearing their hair a little longer they need to condition their hair more. Also, hi-lights are very popular this season.  Make sure to keep your eyebrows well groomed too.

ANA YEBBA, Owner of the Essence Salon

Cooler weather brings dryness to the skin. Give your skin the attention it deserves by exfoliating. Choose a cleanser with a granular texture. Follow with a moisturizer and you will be amazed at how smooth and soft your face will be! More men are just as concerned with anti- aging. Your biggest defense against looking older than you are… A good sun screen!  Choose an SFF of 15 or higher for protection against the ultra violet A rays also known as the aging rays, and an SPF of 45 or higher against the ultra violet B rays, the burning rays for times you are in the sun for longer than 2 hours.

The holidays is a time to stray from your normal eating & drinking habits.  With all the parties and holiday festivities, moderation is the key to looking and feeling healthy.  Drinking alcohol is a sure dehydrator, not to mention the calories which offer no nutritional value.  Replenish what is lost by drinking lots of water and step up the moisturizer for your face and under eye area.  You can still have a fun time this holiday season and look great at the same time.
