Seven Tips for
Effective Resume Writing
1. Pay
attention to detail—don’t cut corners by not proof reading and excluding info that has been asked for.
Don’t begin the cover letter "Dear Sir
or Madam" when the hiring contact’s name is on the company web site. Take the time to make sure the
correspondence and info sent is correct.
2. Do
the basics—Proofread for spelling, grammar, and tone, and make sure you have followed the instructions of the
employer. Writing an e-mail is a convenient
method of communication. However, don't let it appear to informal.
3.
Create an effective resume—organize your information in a logical fashion and keep descriptions clear and to the point.
Include as much work experience as
possible. Also, use a simple, easy-to-read font.
4.
Customize their response—Address the hiring manager directly, and include the name of the company and the
position for which it is hiring in your
cover letter/e-mail response.
5. Make
it easy for the hiring manager—Use your name and the word "resume" in your e-mail header so
it's easy to identify. If the employer asks
for information—such as references or writing samples—provide it.
6.
Focus on what you bring to the employer, not what you want from the job. This is an opportunity for you to market
yourself and stand out from the other
candidates. What can you do to make the hiring manager's life easier? What can you do to help the
company?
7. Be professional—you won't be taken
seriously if you don't have e-mail or
voice mail Also, make sure
your voice mail/answering machine message
sounds professional.
Good Luck!

CREATING A WARDROBE YOU’LL LOVE!
Are you always shopping, yet have
nothing to wear? Do you stare at a closet of mistakes every morning
waiting for the perfect outfit to pop out? Is it impossible to find what
works for you?
Besides instructing communications skills & our “Breaking into the
Industry” seminar, school founder Lisa Maile is a well-respected success coach
who loves closet analysis and taking clients shopping! “I very much enjoy
helping ladies (& gentlemen) on a limited budget learn what works for their
bodies to create a wardrobe plan to spend less, have lots more & most
importantly LOVE what they see in the closet every morning! Dressing
should be joyous & uplifting, empowering you to face each day & feel
like a million.”
Having helped hundreds of professionals (& their closets) over the years,
Lisa’s always-effective simple approach is : make a Wardrobe PLAN, as shopping
for fun, entertainment or haphazardly out of desperation generally produces a
closet of chaos, prompting “I have nothing to wear!”. Says this
experienced image consultant who’s appeared on Lifetime, Hard Copy, & What
Not to Wear, “I help clients learn what works, so shopping is faster, simpler,
& more affordable, since we need less with strong, versatile key
pieces”.
Of course, Lisa‘s also reknown as a communications
coach who develops public speaking and interviewing skills. Executive
client Ryan Marks (profiled in this newsletter) prepared with Lisa before
landing his multinational FDI internship in

BACK TO SCHOOL TIPS FOR PARENTS:
*Be enthusiastic about the upcoming change. If you are excited and
confident, your child will be, too.
*Prepare yourself. Take note of how your child reacts to separation. If
possible, visit the new setting with your child. Introduce your child to the
new teacher.
*Arrange a get together with another child from the class, preferably
one-on-one, so that your child will see a familiar face when he/she walks in.
*Start daily routines. Let your child become involved with packing lunch or
picking out clothes. Begin an earlier bedtime several weeks before.
*Always say good-bye to your child.
Be firm, but friendly about separating. Never ridicule a child for crying.
Instead, make supportive statements like, "it's hard to say
good-bye." If the child whines or clings, staying will only make it
harder.
*At the end of
the work day, put aside your concerns and focus on being a parent.
Communication is the key!
