Good news from Image and Teen Acting graduate Elizabeth Tran. She won National American Miss Florida Preteen Spokes Model. She placed 1st runner up in the actress division and placed in top 30 out of 172. Her mom says, “The training from the school really helped out.”  Way to go Elizabeth!

He will be playing Young Ethan in a film titled The Grand Smallwood by BEC Productions. He also landed an extra role in an indie feature film titled It Could Be You by Diamond Lion Productions.  His mom says “We are very excited as this marks the beginning of his career & we couldn’t have made it without all the knowledge your school provided”.

Be on the look out for acting graduate Caroline King. She landed the role of the referee for this year's Disney Channel Games - being aired all summer long on the Disney Channel beginning at 8pm on Saturday evenings.  Caroline will also be seen in the closing ceremonies.  It was shot here at the Wide World of Sports complex.  Nice job Caroline!

Graduate Jamilia Ahmed(17) modeled for Saks Fifth Avenue at the Fashion Funds the Cure Runway Show, escorted by John Martino who played Paulie Gatto in The “God Father”. She was sponsored by Mercedes Benz of South Orlando. This was a benefit for the Pediatric Cancer Foundation. She is pictured with John Martino and with Mrs. Orlando. During her second trip to Nashville she co-wrote two songs with Corey Barker who is a platinum songwriter.  Bonnie says, “I am 54 years old now. Just like one of my songs says "Endurance is the key and the blessing of us all."

Congratulations to Executive Client Ryan Marks of Winter Park, a junior at SMU in Dallas with double majors in Mandarin Chinese and Financial Consulting through the Cox School of Business, on his selection to the Summer Business Chinese and Internship Program at Shanghai Jiao University.  In high school, Ryan taught himself the basics of the Mandarin language after reading the book China, Inc., with the goal of working in the global marketplace.  This international soccer player and Tri-athlete, who's also an Honor student, prepared for marketing himself to a
multinational company by working with communications coach Lisa Maile on interviewing skills and shared his success from China by Emailing that Hill & Associates, one of the world's leading risk management & security consultancy firms operating in 15 countries throughout Asia, offered him a position on the spot. Ryan will play an integral part in a larger business development plan aimed at expanding the company's market share, engaging in research of foreign direct investments (FDI) and in the risk industry for China.  We're sure Ryan, who visited New Orleans to volunteer gutting houses and assist after hurricane Katrina, will not only excel in his business experiences abroad, but also illustrate by example the definition of a true Southern gentleman.  Applause for your exciting achievements, Ryan; we're thinking one day we'll see you on TV with your own international version of The Apprentice, given your executive success!

Seven Tips for Effective Resume Writing

1. Pay attention to detail—don’t cut corners by not proof reading and     excluding info that has been asked for. Don’t begin the cover letter "Dear             Sir or Madam" when the hiring contact’s name is on the company web       site. Take the time to make sure the correspondence and info sent is            correct.

2. Do the basics—Proofread for spelling, grammar, and tone, and make sure      you have followed the instructions of the employer. Writing an e-mail is a     convenient method of communication. However, don't let it appear to       informal.

3. Create an effective resume—organize your information in a logical fashion    and keep descriptions clear and to the point. Include as much work   experience as possible. Also, use a simple, easy-to-read font.

4. Customize their response—Address the hiring manager directly, and include the name of the company and the position for which it is hiring in     your cover letter/e-mail response.

5. Make it easy for the hiring manager—Use your name and the word     "resume" in your e-mail header so it's easy to identify. If the employer    asks for information—such as references or writing samples—provide it.

6. Focus on what you bring to the employer, not what you want from the job.     This is an opportunity for you to market yourself and stand out from the     other candidates. What can you do to make the hiring manager's life       easier? What can you do to help the company?

      7. Be professional—you won't be taken seriously if you don't have e-mail or                   voice mail Also, make sure your voice mail/answering machine message            sounds professional.

Good Luck!

CREATING A WARDROBE YOU’LL LOVE!

Are you always shopping, yet have nothing to wear?  Do you stare at a closet of mistakes every morning waiting for the perfect outfit to pop out?  Is it impossible to find what works for you?

Besides instructing communications skills & our “Breaking into the Industry” seminar, school founder Lisa Maile is a well-respected success coach who loves closet analysis and taking clients shopping! “I very much enjoy helping ladies (& gentlemen) on a limited budget learn what works for their bodies to create a wardrobe plan to spend less, have lots more & most importantly LOVE what they see in the closet every morning!  Dressing should be joyous & uplifting, empowering you to face each day & feel like a million.”

Having helped hundreds of professionals (& their closets) over the years, Lisa’s always-effective simple approach is : make a Wardrobe PLAN, as shopping for fun, entertainment or haphazardly out of desperation generally produces a closet of chaos, prompting “I have nothing to wear!”.  Says this experienced image consultant who’s appeared on Lifetime, Hard Copy, & What Not to Wear, “I help clients learn what works, so shopping is faster, simpler, & more affordable, since we need less with strong, versatile key pieces”.

Of course, Lisa‘s also reknown as a communications coach who develops public speaking and interviewing skills.  Executive client Ryan Marks (profiled in this newsletter) prepared with Lisa before landing his multinational FDI internship in Shanghai.  “Ryan interviewed in Chinese, so besides creating distinctive responses & stories to sell his talents, our sessions highlighted the importance of power body language.  Obviously, I can’t speak Chinese, but the truth is interviewers remember what they see more than what you say, so in addition to impressive responses, you must paint a picture of confidence, enthusiasm & friendliness through how you present yourself....  in any language.”

This month, Lisa is featured at WMFE’s Speaking of  Women’s Health Conference Aug. 24 at the Orange County Convention Center
.  Besides teaching & coaching at the school, through her company, Lisa Maile Seminars & Coaching, she presents and consults at businesses, colleges, and organizations nationwide.

For more information on private coaching with Lisa customized to your needs, contact School President Debbie Wisner at debbiew@lisamaile.com or 407-628-5989.  All inquiries are confidential.  For more info & complete references on Lisa, please visit www.lisamaileseminars.com.

BACK TO SCHOOL TIPS FOR PARENTS:

*Be enthusiastic about the upcoming change. If you are excited and confident, your child will be, too.

*Prepare yourself. Take note of how your child reacts to separation. If possible, visit the new setting with your child. Introduce your child to the new teacher.

*Arrange a get together with another child from the class, preferably one-on-one, so that your child will see a familiar face when he/she walks in.

*Start daily routines. Let your child become involved with packing lunch or picking out clothes. Begin an earlier bedtime several weeks before.

*Always say good-bye to your child. Be firm, but friendly about separating. Never ridicule a child for crying. Instead, make supportive statements like, "it's hard to say good-bye." If the child whines or clings, staying will only make it harder.

*At the end of the work day, put aside your concerns and focus on being a parent. Communication is the key!
