Broadway Baby

Congratulations to Modeling and Acting graduate, Amanda Balon, for booking a lead role in the national tour of the Broadway hit, Annie!  Amanda will be playing the lead role of “Molly” in the production.  Way to go, Amanda!

Eight-year-old Amanda made her first on-stage appearance at the young age of three, and has been performing ever since as a vocalist, dancer and actress (both in theater and film).  Last year she won 1st place (and 16 medals!) at the World Performing Arts Olympics in the vocal, dance, acting and modeling categories, ultimately earning the title of “Champion Performer of the World.”  Some of Amanda’s acting credits include Annie (Molly/Duffy), Annie Jnr (Annie), Sound of Music (Gretel), Kittens/Cats Jnr (Rumpelteaser), The Grinch (Cindy-Lou), Honk Jnr (Ida), Peter Pan (Tinkerbell), A Christmas Carol (Belinda Cratchitt) and Gypsy (Baby June).

Amanda wants to thank her mom, dad, twin brother Nick, sister, Sam, her coaches, friends and teachers, for their never-ending help and support.  Amanda gives all the glory to God for the talent He has given her, and for all the blessings and doors that He has opened for her.

After her contract is up with Annie, Amanda is booked for a role in the touring musical, Mary Poppins.  We’re so proud of you, Amanda!  We can’t wait to see what your future holds!

Update

We got some great news from school graduate, Joy Walker!  Joy moved back to Los Angeles a couple of months ago, and since then she’s booked a national commercial for Secret deodorant!  She was also picked up by the Beverly Hills commercial agency, Commercials Unlimited.

Joy is no stranger to the world of acting!  Over the past few years she’s done a Buick commercial with Tiger Woods, and a Papa John’s commercial with Dan Marino and the founder of Papa John’s.  Joy acted in leading roles for two independent films: A Bright Star and Needy Life.  She also shot an episode of Showtime’s The L Word, which can be seen on the season two DVD.

Congratulations on all your successes, Joy!  Good luck, and keep us posted on your future endeavors!

In The News

Tiffany Felton competed in the American Cover Miss 2006 Preliminary pageant on March 25th, and walked away with multiple awards, including the title of “Over-All Winner/Supreme Winner” in the 16-25 age group.  Tiffany told us she used her Tim Tew headshot from when she graduated from our Professional Modeling class to win the pageant’s “Miss Photogenic” competition.  Congratulations, Tiffany!

Keep an eye open for Evan Nave’s upcoming commercial for Cypress Gardens !  Evan shot the commercial earlier this month, and it should be airing in the Orlando/Tampa area soon.  Evan will also be appearing in printwork for the park.  Evan’s mother told us that Evan recently received a compliment from one of the staff at Grown Man Productions following an audition.  The staff-member said Evan was so believable at his audition, they replayed his tape over and over.  Way to go, Evan!

Congratulations to Maile School graduate, Brooke Bellows, for booking a spread in the Good Living Section of the Orlando Sentinel!  Brooke is featured in the promotion for prom wear from Dillards.   Keep up the great work, Brooke!

Acting graduate, Chenenne Woods-Gonzalez, was selected to be featured on the Style Network’s hit show, Who’s Wedding Is It Anyway!  Chenenne emailed the  Who's Wedding… casting director, Timothy Hedden, briefly explaining how psychotic her in-laws were behaving.   Tim thought the story was hilarious, and asked Chenenne and her fiancé, Juan, to do a 6 minute tape on "how they met, his family, cultural differences, etc."  The couple sent the tape, which was presented to the network.  The network loved their tape, and Chenenne and Juan were chosen for the show!  Ironically, the wedding planner featured on the show is Maile School grad, Heather Snively.  Congratulations, Chenenne!  Good luck!

The next time you watch country music videos, keep an eye open for the Rascal Flatts video, Skin (Sarabeth).  Maile School graduate, Johnny Maio, was cast as the little brother in the video during a John Peros casting session right here at the school!  We were excited to learn that Skin was awarded “Best Video of the Year” on CMT!
