SCHOOL NEWS November 2005 Rising Star The Accent Modification Training Compton P-ESL Program An Accent Modification Program for Improving Business, Professional, Performance and Social Speaking Skills Taught by Jackie Levine, Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist Do you have a foreign or regional accent? Is it getting in the way of your speaking skills or performance opportunities? If so, this is the program for you! Reducing your accent can benefit everyone - People will understand you more easily. Your self confidence will increase. You will be able to work more efficiently and productively. You will feel more at home in your environment. Your credibility will increase. The Compton Pronouncing English as a Second Language (P-ESL) program begins with a personal analysis of your speech. This analysis reveals exactly how your pronunciation varies from standard American English and identifies specific areas for concentration. The analysis also assists in determining the number of sessions suggested. Jackie then teaches appropriate speech modification techniques, as well as the basic sounds and principles of standard American English. Upon completion of the course, your speech is analyzed again. The results are then compared to the initial analysis so the extent of improvement can be determined. Past comparisons have shown that students who attend all the appropriate sessions and practice diligently can expect to experience at least a 50% change in their accent or dialect. For more information, or to arrange for your personal speech analysis, please call the Lisa Maile School at 407-628-5989!
