Rising Star

Maile School graduate, Joann Bernat, has kept a very busy schedule these days!  She just finished shooting an untitled Will Ferrell NASCAR comedy in Charlotte, NC!  In addition to acting in the role of a housewife, Joann also did stunt work for the film.  Joann also worked as an actress in a short film (currently untitled) that will be submitted for next year’s Sundance Film Festival.  She hasn’t limited herself just to film – she has participated in several theatre productions as well.  She played Mettella Cimber in Julius Caesar, Tituba in The Crucible and Eve in The Liberator.  She also narrated Toy Camp and acted in various roles in Stories & Fables.  Joann is also active in the Screen Actor’s Guild “Book Pals” program, which encourages children to read.  It’s also a great opportunity for actors to network and get positive publicity!  The “Book Pals” advisory board includes Steven Spielberg, Patty Duke, George Clooney and Michael Douglas.  If you listen to WTAN 1340 in Clearwater in the near future, you’ll be able to hear Joann as a call-in guest on a radio show that features entertainment news and guests every Tuesday from 8-9pm.  Joann hasn’t just kept busy doing things in the entertainment industry; she has also given her time to help the victims from Hurricane Katrina by doing de-briefing and crisis intervention.  Congratulations on your recent successes, Joann!  Keep up the great work!

The Maile School presents . . .

Accent Modification Training

Compton P-ESL Program

An Accent Modification Program for Improving Business,

Professional, Performance and Social Speaking Skills

Taught by Jackie Levine, Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist

Do you have a foreign or regional accent? Is it getting in the way of your

speaking skills or performance opportunities? If so, this is the program for you!

Reducing your accent can benefit everyone -

People will understand you more easily.

Your self confidence will increase.

You will be able to work more efficiently and productively.

You will feel more at home in your environment.

Your credibility will increase.

The Compton Pronouncing English as a Second Language (P-ESL) program begins with a personal analysis of your speech. This analysis reveals exactly how your pronunciation varies from standard American English and identifies specific areas for concentration. The analysis also assists in determining the number of sessions suggested. Jackie then teaches appropriate speech modification techniques, as well as the basic sounds and principles of standard American English. Upon completion of the course, your speech is analyzed again. The results are then compared to the initial analysis so the extent of improvement can be determined. Past comparisons have shown that students who attend all the appropriate sessions and practice diligently can expect to experience at least a 50% change in their accent or dialect. For more information, or to arrange for your personal speech analysis, please call the Lisa Maile School at 407-628-5989!
