A Little Luck
To make it in
the entertainment industry, you need a little luck and a lot of
talent. Grisel
Fuller has both! Since graduating from
The Lisa Maile School, Grisel has been keeping
busy. She’s done print work for Disney’s
Animal Kingdom, and frequently does informal modeling for Cache, Casual Corner,
and The Lingerie Collection at the Mall at Millenia. Her most
recent venture was booking a principal role in a national commercial for Steinmart. Not only did she star in the commercial, but the
shoot was also the cover story in the “Life and Times” section of the Orlando
Sentinel! Grisel
almost didn’t make it to her big commercial.
The shoot was scheduled for the same day as the Presidential
Inauguration—and Grisel had tickets to attend! Instead of going to the inauguration, Grisel chose to follow her dream and stay in Orlando to
shoot her first, big national commercial!
Another Lisa
Maile grad who’s been having a little luck these days is Janean
Davis. Janean
also auditioned for Steinmart and was selected to
star in a series of commercials for the store!
She was very excited about the chance to participate in the
commercials. She told us it was an
opportunity of a lifetime; Steinmart is one of her
favorite stores! Janean
was featured alongside Grisel Fuller in the Orlando
Sentinel “Life and Times” cover story.
In addition to her Steinmart commercials, Janean can be seen in a commercial for AMSCOT Check Cashing
Service. She has also done print work
for Hilton Grand Vacation Club, Time Share, and for the Lake Nona Housing
Development. In spite of her busy work
schedule, Janean has continued to study at The Lisa
Maile School. She is currently enrolled
in the Improv class.
Developing Children’s Confidence
by Loretta Rispoli, Office Manager
The
most important thing we can do for our children is help them build self esteem
and confidence. My son, David, started
taking classes here at Lisa Maile over ten years ago. Back then he was a shy, introverted child and
had low self esteem because he was short.
Although he loved sports, he lacked the necessary talent and spent most
of his time on the bench. As a parent, I
was very concerned. Then I heard about
the Lisa Maile School, and thought that starting David in acting classes might
help build his confidence and bring him out of his shell. Never in a million years did I imagine that
David would not only come out of his shell, but would wind up being very
successful and choose to pursue acting as a career!
I
have learned many things from David and the actors he’s worked with over the
years. One lesson I’ve learned is that
it isn’t as strange as it may seem for a shy, quiet person to feel completely
comfortable in front of the camera.
Sometimes it’s easier for a child to act out a character rather than
being themselves. Acting teaches
children to go beyond their comfort zone, and to take risks they might not
normally take.
In
recent years, my son campaigned for, and was elected to be, Senior Class
President at Dr. Phillips High School.
David is now a sophomore at DePaul University in Chicago. He is there on an Acting scholarship.
Were it
not for the encouragement David received in his early acting classes here at
the Lisa Maile School, I’m not sure he would have ever known his
potential. I meet people every day who
say they want to get their children involved in modeling or acting. After seeing the difference acting classes
has made in David’s life, I am definitely an advocate of the classes here at
the Lisa Maile School. I believe these
classes build confidence and give encouragement, and you never know where that
will lead!
In The News
Graduate Tiffany Pittman has been
extremely busy lately! She was selected
to be a promotional model for the Superbowl in
Jacksonville, and recently hosted three segments on Orange TV’s “Community
Café.” Tiffany just completed work as a
segment producer for the MTV show, “I Want a Famous Face.” Tiffany told us it was the most challenging
job she’s ever had – but she got through it!
She’s all set to start her next job as a story editor for a new VH-1
reality series, but says she can’t disclose any details about the show just
yet. We’ll just have to wait and
see!
Ten-year-old Acting graduate, Breanne
Hereford, competed against 120 vocalists to win in the Radio Disney
Super Hero Talent Search! Way to go!
She recently performed an opening number for the band “Jump Five” at
Radio Disney’s 5th Anniversary Bash at the Metro Zoo in Miami. For winning the Super Hero Talent Search,
Breanne is now part of the girl band “Sunsations,”
which will tour South Florida for the next 12 months. Good luck, Breanne!
Lisa Maile graduate, Jae Chae, has spent the past
several months in rehearsing for his starring role in the dramatic theater
production of Isaac Newton’s paradox, “The Bucket in a Closed Room.” The story is based on Newton’s thought
experiment and its conclusion that no matter how hard we try, we cannot isolate
ourselves from the rest of the universe.
The play opened on February 25th at the Fais-Do-Do
Annex Theater in Los Angeles. Break a
leg, Jae!
We heard some great news from Brittany
McDaniel! She was chosen as a finalist
in the WMMO radio National Anthem contest!
This busy Lisa Maile graduate also danced at the Orlando Magic halftime
show as a Junior Magic Dancer. In
addition to all this, Brittany was invited to perform at the All American Dream
Pageant on February 12th. Thanks for the
updates, Brittany!
Jim McDonald sent in a post card to let
us know that he has a brand new National Commercial for The Golf
Warehouse! The commercial can now be
seen on the Golf Channel, so be sure to keep your eyes open for Jim. This Lisa Maile grad plays a crazy golfer
addicted to The Golf Warehouse’s website, tgw.com. Keep up the good work, Jim!
Congrats to Lisa Maile graduate, Stephen Timmes, winner of First Overall at the January 29th
Boys’ Gymnastics Meet!
Lisa Maile graduate, Dynell Maaseia, stopped by the
school for some career advice - and to tell us what she’s been up to
lately. She shot a commercial for Publix, as well as an impressive print ad that can be seen
in all the Publix stores and in the Orlando
Sentinel. She has another commercial
running for Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and recently did informal modeling for
Lillie Rubin at the Mall at Millenia. Now Dynell is
waiting to hear back from several auditions she had recently. Good luck, Dynell,
keep us posted! And even as busy as Dynell has been, she still has time to take acting
classes!
Words of Wisdom
from Debbie Wisner
No opportunity is ever lost - someone else seizes
the ones you missed! Don’t be afraid to
take chances and pursue your dreams. The
only failure is in not trying. Remember,
you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take!
Go for it!

The February
“First Friday” event at the Mall at Millenia
