Hello World!

Alexis Mero is selected 1 of 2 to be the next Laurie Partridge in the Partridge Family remake.  Lisa Maile actress and singer, Alexis Mero 17, from Celebration, was selected as one of the top young ingénue to star as Laurie Partridge in “In Search of the Partridge Family”. This program is a remake of the 1970’s hit sitcom “The Partridge Family”.  When the nationwide search made the stop in Orlando she was selected and received a call back and from there was chosen as one of eight to fly to Los Angeles to compete for a spot in the reality show.

“In Search of the Partridge Family” airs on Sunday nights at 9pm on VH-1.  With help from American voters, viewers will cast their vote and select a finalist for each character. So be sure to tune in and vote for ALEXIS on Sunday October 10th live on VH-1 for the new Laurie Partridge/Alexis Mero.

Linda Littlefield, her manager, who happens to be the mother of 2 Lisa Maile grads, Leanne (teen acting) & Jennifer (image) says, “The original cast members were very complimentary of Alexis as well as the producers. Linda feels whether or not Alexis wins, something will come out of this. Sony Records has hinted about a possible recording contract.

Alexis’s passion for acting and singing brought her to The Lisa Maile School to work on acting skills to prepare her for the industry. She recorded a CD demo called “Left With Nothing” but after landing this wonderful opportunity we’d say she has EVERYTHING!!

“The WAY You LOOK”

The Make-Up Rut

As a makeup artist I’m often asked to do makeover updates.  It seems we all can get caught in a makeup rut so easily and often apply our makeup in the decade we felt our youngest or most attractive, The result?  Being caught “lost in the excessive 80’s” meaning too much color, or still wearing the “natural look” meaning looking and feeling drab!

So, to bring my clients’ makeup into this century, I will often pick the most attractive feature to really “play up”.  For example, if the lips are the stronger feature, I will use a stronger more dominant color.  I’ll begin by neatly and precisely outlining the lips with a lip pencil in a neutral shade closest to the lip tone and then using a lip brush fill in with a creamy lipstick.  A touch of lip gloss to highlight the middle of the upper and lower lip is also applied.  I then give the eyes what I call a “clean eye” meaning the eye shadow color is very neutral, clean and soft.  A color such as taupe or various shades of beige’s and browns may be used.  The cheeks are also keep natural with a color that reflects a sun kissed look.

If the eyes are the stronger feature, then more dramatic colors are applied to the eyes, liner and 2 different mascara shades are also applied and the lips are done in softer and lighter tones.  Try these subtle tricks yourself and not only will you come into the year 2004, but you’ll take years off your dated look.  It’s all about looking and feeling great!

 IN THE NEWS!

Who could forget the wonderful performance by Stephanie Blick at the Back to School Fashion Show at the Mall at Millenia.  Her mom promised to keep us posted on her Europeon tour…. They just returned from a month long trip to Germany which included rehearsals with her live band, 3 TV performances, an hour long guest spot on NBC Giga in which they played her video and surfed her website, the Natural tour, (which was a blast), the Dome, (a huge show in Nurnberg), interviews with magazines, newspapers, a full page spread in McDonald’s European magazine, finishing the album, and the list goes on!  She also did a show in Berlin called the “You” and a photoshoot for Bravo Magazine, the most circulated magazine in all of Europe.  Her single is selling well and should be in the charts this week.  One the last day of the tour, it took Stephanie half an hour to check into the hotel in Cologne because of fans.  During her final tour performance, the guys in “Natural” showered her with confetti and balloons at the end of one of her songs.  Stephanie is one talented young lady!!! Thanks mom for keeping us posted!

Speaking of the Mall at Millenia.  Did you know that the 1st Friday of every month Lisa Maile Models are booked to represent various stores to showcase new merchandise for their monthly social called “First Friday”.  The following graduates were the 1st First Friday models: Ericka Anderson (Anthropologie), Laura Brown (Talbots), Charlotte Clarke (Everything But Water), Kate Clarke (St John), Melissa Falk (Lillie Rubin), Grisel Fuller (Casual Corner), Nina Haine (Cache), Zak Gronert (Sisley), Cindy Laberinto (Petite Sophisticates), Angelina Lombardo (Benneton), Bryanne Ricci (Blunauta), Olivia Shirek (Arden B), Kimberly Thompson (Rampage).

Congrats to graduate David Rispoli who received a scholarship at DePaul University in Chicago for acting.  We also welcome his mom Loretta who recently joined our staff.

Did you happen to see the Florida Fall Fashion Magazine?  If so grad/instructor Pree Hull and Children’s Modeling camp grad Sophia Rivera-Colon were both showcased in the September 5th issue.  Pree modeled for the “Timeless Tweed” article by Jean Patteson, and Sophia modeled in the “Brooching the Subject” article.  Congrats to both of you on incredible pictures.

Kudos to Teen Acting Grad, Brea Morgan who was selected to perform a solo at Disney for a Bath and Body Works Convention.

The hurricane didn’t stop Debby Tapia from the most important day of her life, her wedding day.   On Saturday, September 25th at 4:00PM when curfews were being enforced, Debby & Drew were tying the knot to be husband & wife.  Congratulations!!!

More News from JUSTIN SMITH “THE WB GUY,” he recently appeared on the nationally syndicated morning show called THE DAILY BUZZ on the WB. This show is shown is 140 markets, that’s almost 50% of the country. He was flown to Atlanta to tape the press junket for LADDER 49 staring John Travolta. He got the dream of a lifetime to interview the one and only John Travolta, Joaquin Phoenix, Robert Patrick and famous director Jay Russell. Justin said, “It was a wonderful experience and John Travolta is the nicest guy and so very humble to be so big in Hollywood”!!

Congrats to Image & Confidence Development grad Erin Headley who just finished producing her first national television special for The Golf Channel: “2004 U.S. Kids Golf World Championship”  It airs on Thanksgiving Day at 1:30 pm.  Basically she was in charge of the entire project, including overseeing the tournament and crew, writing the script, picking the shots, overseeing the edit sessions, picking music, etc. Wow! Sounds like this was an exciting time for Erin!

Shaking Things Up!

by Pat Clay

It seems to be human nature to rest on ones laurels.  When things are going smoothly, we tend to become complacent.  You know the old saying, "If it isn't broke, why fix it?"  I'll be the first to admit there's logic in that statement.  It is much easier and comfortable to settle for the status quo rather than shake things up and take chances.

The Acting Division at The Lisa Maile School has been successful in training actors of all ages for twenty years.  Our courses were solid and offered a good start to an acting career, our acting teachers experienced and dedicated.  So why shake things up?  How can we not!

Given the fact that our school's mission statement is a commitment to teach and guide our students and clients for success in the entertainment industry, how can we tolerate complacency?  How can we be satisfied with the status quo, when the industry itself is constantly changing?  Simple!  We can't. And so (insert a drum roll please) we are expanding and improving both our curriculum and our staff.  The first change is adding Justin Smith (the WB Guy) to our staff as a teacher of our 7-10 year old children's class, and Rachele Leps as one of the team that teaches teens.

The next change, and Kevin O'Neill, Al Hubbs and I are really excited about this, is a retooled first acting class.  No longer will we be team teaching a TV Commercial Acting class as the introductory class here.  Starting in October, we will now offer a Fundamentals of Acting class.  This will be a true basic acting course.  It will offer the nitty-gritty of acting through exercises, games, lectures and in-class work.  You will be introduced to Improv, Monologues, Scene-Study, Commercial preparation and Audition Techniques.  Instead of each one of us teaching a four week block, we will be alternating every two weeks with Kevin beginning, Al ending, and as always, I'll be in the middle.  We have been working very hard to develop this course into an exciting and unique program for both the novice and the accomplished actor.  We all can use work on the fundamentals, so even if you've been here awhile, this class will benefit you.  If you have recently completed the old class, fear not, the new class can be taken at a discount for our graduates.

Also included in our new curriculum are expanded advanced classes.  Commercial Acting will now be an eight weeks course and joins Monologue, Improv, Scene Study and Advanced Improv.  These classes are undergoing changes as well, but the central themes remain the same.  Now added to the advanced classes are Intro to Comedy, Voice Accent Reduction, Advanced Scene Study and Advanced Audition Technique.

I would be remiss in failing to mention "Coming Attractions".  These include a Dialect Class and an exciting program called The Film Actor:  Taking Direction.  We hope to work with a novice film director on his/her project and in working through the rehearsal phase develop stronger incite in the actor for the director's vision and in the director a better way to communicate with the actor.  So stay tuned!  Added to all this excitement, is a new price structure that will include "packaging" of advanced courses to save you money.

Join us in kicking complacency to the curb!  Never again will we rest on our laurels, there's no time for that.  We're going to be much too busy turning the acting division of Lisa Maile into the premier acting school in Florida.  This is just the beginning.  JUST WATCH US SHAKE THINGS UP!

Let Us Hear From You!

Hey Coach!

Why do your classes start at the age of four?  I’ve had several people tell me my baby should be a model!

Proud Parent

Winter Park, FL

Dear Proud Parent,

Most local casting directors are only interested in children ages four and up.  By this age, many children are attending preschool and have become used to taking directions in a classroom setting.  If you want to get your child involved in the industry, you may want to go ahead and learn all you can before their fourth birthday.

Starting this fall, the school will be registering parents of children under the age of four for our Breaking Into the Industry seminar.  Upon registration, parents will receive a packet of information that is age appropriate to their child.  The registration fee can also be applied towards enrollment in one of our children’s classes (once the child  turns four), or an Adult Acting class (for the parent).

You can call (407) 628-5989 or email info@lisamaile.com to register or for more information.

Hey Coach!

In searching for an agent, I keep hearing SAG.  What is a SAG agent?

Agent Angst

Altamonte Springs

Dear Agent Angst,

SAG stands for Screen Actors Guild.  SAG agents are regulated by a union and must follow certain rules and regulations.  For example, you would never pay a SAG agent to get work for you.  SAG agents find work for you first, and then collect a percentage of your earnings.  SAG agents pay you for all overtime, and abide by all child labor laws.  Also, SAG agents won’t try  to sell you picture or portfolio packages.

With our Professional Modeling course, and each of our Acting courses, you receive information on how to contact and begin working with legitimate SAG agents.

Do you have a question that you would like answered. Email us at frontdesk@lisamaile.com and we will answer your question in next months publication. Chances are that if you have a question, other students and grads would benefit from our answer as well. To make sure your question ends up in the newsletter address it by saying “Hey Coach.”

Remember send it to frontdesk@lisamaile.com.
